The rabbi came in to police headquarters, was charged, processed and released.

The charges stem from the arrest of the rabbi Sunday night after police said he interfered while a officer was writing his niece a warning for tailgating. The incident touched off demonstrations by large crowds of Orthodox Jewish residents outside police headquarters on both Sunday and Monday nights.

The police patrol car was equipped with a audio component. The altercation was picked up on audio. Those tapes are being examined in the course of the investigation and are not being released to the public.

The case will now go to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, which will decide whether to seek to indict the rabbi or downgrade the charge.
