In Jewish Williamsburg moisture cured has become part of the culture, and a Rabbi a Williamsburg native, is convinced that moisture cure is making people sick, and he has vowed to educate his neighbors about its dangers and get the product banned. But he already acknowledges that the fight has changed him. It has turned him into an environmentalist, for one thing.
It’s a story of what in the Yiddish language, is called a noodge — a very determined man who is willing to pester, cajole and nag the world to draw attention to his cause. And while health professionals remain skeptical of some of the Rabbi claims — particularly that moisture cure is causing cancer and miscarriages in Williamsburg — others say he is clearly onto something in describing the respiratory effects.
