A passerby noticed the blaze at the Nachal Paran synagogue in the city of Modi’in and called the fire department, which took much longer to arrive than usual due to a strike, residents claim. The strike was due to the fact that firefighters have not been paid in over a month. they say it took between twenty minutes and a half-hour.
The fire destroyed the synagogue Wednesday, and also burning two Safer Torah scrolls but resulting in no injuries. Modi’in is located between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
