Time Switch Raises Concerns For Worshippers To Choose Between Prayer And Arriving Late To Work.

A new law would end daylight-saving time on the first Sunday in November instead of the last Sunday in October. It would start three weeks earlier, on the second Sunday in March rather than the first Sunday in April. That extension would create some darker mornings in order to bring more daylight to the evenings and help save energy.

Normally, during the first week of November the sun would rise at about 6:55 a.m. If daylight time were extended, the sun wouldn’t rise until an hour later. The sun would rise later in the spring, too – at 7:45 a.m. on March 11, 2007.

The new system worry’s some in the Orthodox Jewish community’s. Darkness may be a problem for Orthodox Jews, who start the day with a morning prayer intended to coincide with dawn. Congressmen questioned whether an 8 a.m. sunrise might force some worshippers to choose between prayer and arriving late to work.
