Albany, NY – Money that goes unspent on expired gift cards in New York must be turned over to the state as unclaimed property, a court has ruled.
The decision eliminates incentives for businesses to impose short expiration dates on gift cards and pocket unspent funds, state Assistant Attorney General Douglas Goglia said.
