Sullivan County – Legislators are expected to pass a law that will allow volunteer firefighters and members of volunteer ambulance squads to apply for an exemption on their county taxes.
The law would provide a real property tax credit of up to $3,000 to qualified volunteers who have at least five years of active service or have accrued more than 20 years of active service with a fire company or ambulance squad.
In Sullivan County, it’s estimated that 1,500 active firefighters and ambulance corps members could get the tax break.
