Two small planes collided over a San Diego suburb Wednesday, killing three people and scattering burning wreckage across a park and nearby residential streets, the local fire department said.
Television news showed a white object that appeared to be an airplane wing in the front yard of a house where parts of the roof smoldered as firefighters worked to extinguish the damage.
Monica Zech, spokeswoman for the El Cajon Fire Department said three people were killed in the accident at 4:40 p.m. (7:30 p.m. EST). She said earlier reports that a helicopter was involved were mistaken.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were on the scene
