Beirut, Lebanon – Dozens Killed In Israeli Strike

    Beirut, Lebanon – Israeli jets bombed the southern Lebanese town of Qana, destroying several houses in which 57 people are dead more arewounded. Meanwhile fierce clashes had broken out between the guerrilla and Israeli troops who had “infiltrated” a zone some three or four kilometers inside the border.

    The clashes were taking place near the town of Marjayoun which has been heavily bombed over the past days. The Israeli force was a commando unit known as “the Golani Brigade,” and two soldiers had been killed.

    Lebanese officials have asked Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice not to visit Lebanon after the Israeli airstrike, and Rice says she is “deeply saddened by the terrible loss of innocent life” in Lebanon, but does not call for cease fire.

    Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that Israel is not in a hurry to agree to a cease-fire in Lebanon until it achieves its goals.
