The store is opening in a former Sears department store located on one of the city’s busiest downtown streets. It aims to lure locals as well as customers from around New York City and Westchester County with the largest food assortment outside a so-called superstore and an array of products for small apartments.
Sources say that the chain hopes to emulate its large kosher section in Monticello, NY in the hope of attracting kosher consumers from throughout the metropolitan area.
White Plains makes some sense. There are more that just “inzir mentshin” out thesre that buy kosher and there is a decent sized jewish community within the surrounding areas of WP. They should have one in Downtown BoroPark or Downtown Flatbush too!
They do have a pretty decent meat / poultry section in Monticello.
However, I’ve never heard that White Plains has a particularly noticeable frum community.
Somehow, though, I just don’t envision any heimishe traveling (by car-service?) to Westchester to do their grocery shopping.
i dont recall the monticello store being so big for the kosher consumer.
