Tel Aviv, Israel – Despite ban, Rabbi Still Takes Money for Weddings

    18

Tel Aviv, Israel – Tel Aviv Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, continues to take payment for conducting weddings, even though by law, rabbis employed by the state are not allowed to accept payment for such work, which is considered part of their jobs.

As Tel Aviv chief rabbi, Lau receives a full-time salary from the Tel Aviv Religious Council. Nevertheless, Lau was paid $500 for a wedding he conducted in Tel Aviv last month, and he conducts about 10 weddings a month.
Lau’s associates admitted that he continues to take payment for weddings, even though he announced he had ceased this practice, and even though he knows such payments violate the law. They said he donates “the lion’s share” of payments to charity, but that does not make the payments legal.

Why should he charge he should be honored. I know lots of rabbi’s who would pay their two front teeth to be the one under the chuppa marring off someones kid.

Perhaps a doctor shouldn’t charge you for treating you either. Give me a break!
He should charge! He should charge double!

The only problem I see is that his contract stipulates that he can’t get paid outside the state. Well, he should renegotiate his contract. ASAP I guess he needs a better union rep. Perhaps Peretz can hellp him out. Maybe close the country down when the state wont agree, like he did before he was appointed to the goverment.

HEY EVERYONE HAS TO MAKE A LIVING
FIRST THEY BUST THE GUY FOR STAYING AT THE DAVID CITADEL HOTEL FOR FREE SAYING IT WAS A PAYOFF AND THEN WHEN THE GUY WANTS TO MAKE AN HONEST LIVING AS A RAV WHICH HE IS AND THEY BUST HIM ON THAT TOO
ITS OBVIOUS THEY ARE JUST OUT TO GET HIM WHAT EVER HE DOES
REGARDING HIM ATTENDING WEDDINGS ITS OBVIOUS AN HONOR TO HAVE THE CHief Rabbi of israel to be your msader kidushen
as otherwise one can use any rabbi and pay 50-100 to do the service
if one wants the prestige of the chief rabbi to attend its a small price to add in to the total wedding expenses and kol hakovod he deserves it plus more shame on the zionist govt who are bigger ganovim they r rodef nefosheos to go after a rav (who they most probobly invite to their own affairs for there honor and then go after him like that

any rabbi that does a wedding takes or asks for pay

its normal to pay a rabbi to do ur wedding and chupah and all

rabbi lau is worth the 500 dollars and if someone does not like it they can find a cheap rabbi who will do it for less or free

Sorry let me clarify. I am not in ANYWAY judging Rabbi Lau or the facts of his case. I do NOT know the facts. And thank you for the insults, I can use some pain in this world.

I’m just describing the GENERAL state of our society. There is all kinds of Hoteirim on Oser Doreises. While nobody is even capable of registering that there is a problem at all!

i.e. If Rabbi Lau signed a contract with the state of Israel not to take any money. And his Salary is based on that contract. It can be a sheile of an Oser Doireise. Again I’m not saying this is the case. But the comments above show that their minds doesn’t even think in that direction. So if a Rabbi is not held to a basic standard by the public, what should an Om Hooretz be held too???

The answer is the standards of Sodom.

So the following fact will not disappear with denials: It is in our blood, heart, bones and brains for decades. It is metome us. We ARE Neveiles iTreifes.

Crying rov – the parralel you’ve drawn between Shevach & R’ Lau definitely sounds like it comes from a nevailah uteraifah or just a plain old sheretz.

Did you do your own investigation and verify all the peratim of the purported maaseh with R’ Lau or are you being someich on street gossip to draw your conclusion??

Hey! If ya don’t wanna pay, find a cheaper Rabbi. But you can’t expect the Cheif Rabbi not to cost something. The poor guy would be busy every second of his free time if he didn’t use the $500 as a deterrant.

why is this punkt coming out now? I

Is it b/c there was an earlier announcement that Rabbi Lau would run for President & then Shimon Peres (SR’Y) decided that he deserves that position, and is up to his dirty old tricks again of finding and publicizing small time dirt on any potential opposition??

This is why our society is corrupt from top to bottom. 95% of our population do not even realize that there is a major problem. Our society lives on Treif gelt. Then we wonder why things go wrong.

The solution is Robunim, Beth Dins and all public (and none-profit) employees must be on a strict yearly wage. No profit sharing, commissions, bonuses or incentives. The wage must come from Kohels Treasury controlled by member votes.

Otherwise we are going down. I don’t see the above being installed anytime soon.

Our treif scandal didn’t go away when Shevach Meats was closed down. It was just a symptom. It is in our blood, heart, bones and brains for decades. It is metome us. We ARE Neveiles iTreifes.
