The police underwater recovery unit conducted a dive in the lake after a report from two anglers who said they saw human remains under the ice near Beacon Island, north the South River. The fishermen were using an underwater camera at the time
Divers searched a wide area around where the anglers reported the remains.
A 30-year-old Toronto man remains missing and presumed drowned in the lake. Eli Horowitz, 30, and his father-in-law, Heine Mondrowitz, 56, of Richmond Hill, were vacationing at a resort west of Callander when they rented a six-metre boat for a short fishing and swimming trip Aug. 21.
Horowitz was a paramedic who helped found the Toronto chapter of Hatzolah, a volunteer-based emergency medical service, eight years ago. The group has offered at least a $10,000 reward for recovery of the body.
