But when police SWAT REACT teams moved in they found Louis Rozakis, 67, the Building Inspector of the Village of Kiryas Joe, Monroe, NY, alone in Apt. 53, dead on the bedroom floor with a gunshot wound to the head from a .38-caliber revolver.
Rozakis had been in a fight with some family member and threatened to shoot himself in front of that person.
When police arrived, they were unable to get in touch with Rozakis either by phone or by knocking on the door. The specialized REACT team, made up of Monroe, Harriman and Woodbury police, entered the apartment and found him dead.
The apartments were evacuated for more than two hours while residents waited in a church across the street.
Police are labeling the shooting a suicide.
