New Windsor, NY – For several years, Supervisor and county Legislator George Green has talked about using the Hudson River as a primary source of New Windsor's drinking water but with no success. For more than a decade, Green has failed to lead New Windsor to a permanent solution to the overdevelopment dilemma that is environmentally damaging this community.

Green has signed a stopgap measure agreement with Newburgh, however, the water needs keep growing on a daily basis, and in case of a drought they must expect Newburgh to take care of its own. After all, during New Windsor's 2006 water emergency, Newburgh needed to pump water from its emergency source, Chadwick Lake, to supply New Windsor.
So how does New Windsor overcome its water problem, what do we need to do? The answers are not simple, nor will it be cheap.
One of the solutions suggested are, that New Windsor must actively get involved with the proposed Kiryas Joel pipeline that has been under political consideration for several years. The Kiryas Joel pipeline, if constructed and designed correctly, will offer a backup water supply to eastern Orange County by tying into abundant water supplies along its way. At present, the Kiryas Joel line, which may be federally funded, could stop at the Town of Woodbury's Earl Reservoir and the Star's Mountainville wells, which Kiryas Joel has talked about using as a backup water source when the Catskill Aqueduct is out of service.
These projects if presented properly, can serve to eliminate and/or lower many of the water-use taxes that New Windsor taxpayers now pay. [Record]
