Lake George, NY – Verizon Wireless has plans for two new cell towers in Lake George, one of which could be installed in several months, said Verizon Wireless spokesman John O’Malley.

A 40-foot tower to be installed near the highway garage on Gage Road has been approved by the town, said Supervisor Lou Tessier. A larger tower on Ryan Avenue, off Harrington Hill Road near Northway Exit 23, still needs Adirondack Park Agency approval.

“I think everybody’s happy, because cell reception is so bad here,” Tessier said.

After a fatal accident along the Northway in January, Verizon Wireless announced plans to try to increase coverage along that route, but O’Malley said the two Lake George towers were already in the works and are not related to that effort.

“This is just part of our normal network build-out plan,” he said.

The two towers are meant to increase both coverage and capacity in the area, O’Malley said. Verizon coverage is solid within the village of Lake George, though it starts to get spottier up toward Warrensburg.

Plans call for just Verizon antennae, but the company would be open to collocating with antennae from other companies, O’Malley said. [PostStar]
