The blaze was reported after a resident of the High Point complex, near Lakewood Industrial Park, at Prospect Street and Massachusetts Avenue, woke to find her bedroom curtains on fire, Officer Sean Doyle said. Emergency responders evacuated everyone in the building, which consists of eight apartments, Doyle said. No one was hurt.

Lakewood police, fire and rescue workers, with some assistance from nearby Bricktown, brought the fire under control later in the morning, and got everyone out after some of the residents were trapped on the balcony. The Red Cross also was on hand to help the displaced residents find temporary accommodations.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshals.
