Reps. Vito Fossella and Peter King, both New York Republicans, announced the move at a news conference at Fort Hamilton in south Brooklyn, where the unit would be based.
In a joint statement, they said the proposal had recently “cleared several hurdles” to gain Congressional approval and $4.8 million for startup costs and $3 million in separate funding. The Brooklyn-based unit would be the state’s second, but the first in the metropolitan area. Another CST already is located at Stratton Air National Guard base near Scotia, N.Y.
