The boy drowned after experiencing difficulty swimming. His seven-year-old friend attempted to rescue him and when he had failed to do so, ran to a nearby synagogue to alert congregants – one of whom arrived at the pool and extracted the boy's body after his death.
The pool is not open on Shabbat but the boy and his friend climbed over the two-meter-high fence to access it. Police said that the incident was irregular and that it would be investigated. [J-Post]
