Monsey, NY – Rockland Officials Want FAA Meeting on Flight Path

Monsey, NY – Rockland officials surprised to learn that Newark-bound planes could be flying over the county every three minutes by 2011 demanded yesterday that the Federal Aviation Administration reconsider its planned new route.

From the federal to town levels, elected officials accused the agency of keeping county residents uninformed about the flight-path changes and called on the FAA to hold a meeting in Rockland to discuss the plan’s effects.

“The FAA is proposing to wreck the tranquility of Rockland and rain down pollution on it, all without telling us,” Rep. Eliot Engel, D-Bronx, said in a statement.

The FAA aims to create a new flight path for arrivals to Newark Liberty International Airport that would bring 200 to 400 planes over Rockland daily. The flights would enter Rockland at an altitude of about 5,000 feet – less than a mile – from the north, pass through the heart of the county and reach their lowest – and noisiest – levels over Chestnut Ridge.

Newark, N.J., arrivals currently do not fly over Rockland. They travel farther west, over Orange County. [journalnews]

BTW Boro Park is right under the approach to LGA and planes are going over all day at about 3000 ft. Also mostly small stuff (737, A320, MD-80 etc.)
I am a plane nut too and I love it….

why is it that people who live outside of BPark are always so defensive about how great it is to have a big lawn. especially when they know nobody that chooses to stay in BPark is impressed.

i’m sorry you would let your kids play in the gutter if they lived in bpark.
of course those of us that live here are smart enough not to allow that.
since you believe the choice is a big yard or kids in the gutter; it’s a good thing you don’t live in bpark.

I’m sorry 9:42, I am against all the over building and zoning changes in Ramapo but I am with 9:38. I love visiting my sister in Lawrence just to look up in the sky every minute. The only bad thing is the size of the planes that go into Newark. Most of them are the small 757’s and MD 82’s. Not enough of the Jumbos. And as far as 1:13 AM is concerned, why dont you find a patch of earth in Boro Park and crawl back there.

how manytimes do you circle your block in boro park to find a spot.
BTW that little 10’x10′ patch of grass you might have in front of (your) house. ours are slightley bigger our kids tend to play on it not the gutter.
