New York, NY – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg declared his traffic congestion pricing plan dead on Tuesday, even as Albany leaders continued trying to make a last-ditch deal.

“Although we continue to talk to the Legislature and the governor, it’s sad to note that after three months of working with all parties to address their questions, the failure of the state Assembly to act in time on a deadline imposed by the federal government is a terrible setback for clean air and to our critical commitment to fight climate change,” Bloomberg said in a statement.

“I can’t ascribe motives to the lack of action in Albany, but I can definitively say the environment and the future quality of life in New York took a beating,” Bloomberg said in a statement. [ap]

What I’m trying to understand is this: If the Federal Government is offering FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS, Bloomberg should be paying drivers to stay out of Manhattan, not charging them to leave (and enter).
I say, sign-up for the money, start Congestion Driving (not “Pricing”), pay everyone to leave their cars elsewhere.
I didn’t even hear Bloomberg consent to the idea floated around to make all Public Transportation FREE during those times which would have boosted popularity with the general public.

YIPPEEE! it’s a great day for New Yorkers! We should declare this day a City wide Holiday! maybe another Independence day? let’s not overdue it so let’s settle for congestion free day! hmmmm that might lead us to a fast day! scrap that idea………but whatever the name this day shall be observed by driving our Hummers right in-to downtown Manhattan honk our horns outside of City Hall and not feed those money hungry meters! celebrations shall include wine and fireworks as well as commercial trucks blaring their horns while conducting deliveries from dawn to dusk! F-R-E-E-D-O-M! GO MIKE GO! (HOME)
