Agents arrested a man who fits the general description of the suspect who robbed 17 banks while wearing hats in New Jersey.
Special Agent Sean Quinn said investigators are trying to confirm his identity.
The latest heist was Sunday when a robber made off with $5,000 from a Bank of America branch in a Union supermarket.
The suspect wore various baseball caps, a fishing hat and a hunting cap during the bank robbery sprees.
One bank in Florham Park asked patrons to leave their hats, hoods or other head-coverings when entering the Hudson City Savings Bank branch.
The bank instituted a no hats policy in hopes of thwarting the perp known as the Hat Bandit, as was reported here on Vos Iz Neias.
Authorities said the publicity surrounding the case may have touched off some copycat robberies. [wnbc]
