Orange County, Monroe, NY – Kiryas Joel ran into turbulence with the Orange County Legislature, when lawmakers pulled two of the village's requests from their agenda and sent them back to committees.

One was already in trouble. The village was belatedly seeking permission to install a water pipe across county property in Monroe after already starting work. One legislator – Frank Fornario, R-Blooming Grove – had made known that he wanted the request tabled until his oversight committee could review it.
Before the criticism could start, Kiryas Joel's representative, Michael Amo, R-Central Valley, withdrew the pipe request. Fornario's committee will take it up this month.
More surprising was a 15-5 vote to return to that same committee Kiryas Joel's request to take over part of County Route 44 so it can install sidewalks and do other improvements. No one had objected before, but about six audience members spoke out in opposition that night, expressing concern about road maintenance and closures. [Record]
