Satmar Hassidim are known for their anti-Zionist stance, and the event is considered by them to be a major victory in their campaign to safeguard the sanctity of Jerusalem.

The movie theater site, which is situated close to the Orthodox neighborhoods of Mea Shearim and Geula, was the site for decades of violent clashes between Haredim and police. It was closed 15 years ago, and the plot was sold three years ago to the Satmar Hassidim.

The housing project will include 100 apartments and structures that will be used by the community for educational purposes. [haaretz]

I just came from Kenndy Airport to pick up a family member who flew in from overseas and I saw 3 official Satmar school buses at the terminal with lots of black hatted chasidim I asked what’s going on they told me they are going to Israel with the Rabbi, its looks to be much more then 25 people going along…I am sure there is more people besides the Buses.

Airline?? Definitly not EL-AL!! Because EL-AL was shunned by the Satmar’s many moons ago, Israir is kosher, but the Israeli papers are writing that he flew to Frankfurt, and from there he is going to Israel on Wednsday, as far as I know only Lufthansa flies from frankfurt on wednsday to Israel.
