FEMA officials to assess everal homes that have been deemed unlivable, and decide if the residents will get any federal aid.
It's been five days since a tornado ripped through homes and uprooted trees in Brooklyn, but the cleanup is still far from over.
Homes are without roofs, trees are uprooted and other damage is still clearly visible.
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down in the Livingston-Randall Manor area of Staten Island before eventually becoming the EF2 that slammed into Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
The EF2 twister that struck in the early morning hours in Brooklyn hit with enough force to render many families without power and some families homeless. At least 100 cars and 60 homes were damaged — 30 significantly.
After FEMA officials make their decision, it will be up to Governor Spitzer to ask the federal government for low cost loans and other assistance for these residents and local businesses. [wcbstv]
