With the help of the Bronx Borough President's office, community and religious groups, and the police, the Educational Jewish Center on Astor Ave. is planning to fortify the building to thwart future attacks.
The synagogue is planning to build a 7-foot-high fence to prevent potential vandals from getting close. They will also add fencing around the windows to protect against thrown objects.

Borough President Adolfo Carrión Jr. has pledged $2,000 to defray the $2,400 in damages to the windows, but synagogue president Alec Feldman said he is unsure where he will get the additional $5,000 for the other security measures.

Carrión's office is assisting with getting estimates for the security measures and will convene a meeting next week to create a task force for the community.
Members of the NYPD's 49th Precinct will attend, as will representatives from the Anti-Defamation League and the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York.
Still, Feldman is skeptical that any measures will be effective as long as the perps are on the loose.
"I'm just presuming that it will happen again," he said. "How can you avoid it if you don't catch the kids who did it." [nydailynews]
