Monsey, NY – Last night, former Assemblyman Ryan Karben held his annual barbeque at his home in Suffern, New York.

Karben was chased out of the Assembly by allegations he acted inappropriately with an intern, but has since resurfaced with a private legal practice and an increasingly visible fund-raising role for Eliot Spitzer.
More than 100 people made it out to Karben’s backyard for the catered barbeque. Some notables included Eliot Spitzer’s Jewish liaison, Ross Wallenstein, former Bronx borough president and mayoral candidate Freddy Ferrer, Assemblyman Adam Bradley, Yonkers City Council President Chuck Lesnick, undeclared Brooklyn city council candidate Ezra Friedlander, New York Democratic Lawyers Council steering committee member Josh Pepper, attorney and self-described Cuomo supporter Menashe Y. Regardless of whether you believe runmors about his personal behavior, Ryan accomplished a lot for his constituents. It would be a shame to not to give credit where it’s due. Hopefully, he can re-enter public life once again with an awareness that even the appearance of personal behavior is wrong. If he didn’t do anything wrong, then we’re guilty of r’chilus. If he did do something wrong, then let’s not deny him an opportunity for teshuva. My personal impression is that he was honest and trustworthy in his political and financial ethics. His personal ethics? Well, that’s between him and Hashem, as it is with all of us.
you dont have to agree to all of his policies, but bashing & accusing is certainly a no no.

from anon 4:52… I am NOT speculating or creating facts. and Yes, I also know him personally and I also know what people who I have spoken to here in the community think of him. This certainly doesn’t negate anything good he has done, as we are all granted the opportunity to do teshuvah. But, to sit here and pretend and sweep his history of impropriety under the table is also ridiculous. The bottom line is that he will always be a
“politician” because of his personality, whether he is in office or not.

Every one can speculate and answer what ever they want,
So can you!
But remember you are only assuming without facts regardless of what you hear from the street & the media who will try to jump on anyone in politics to make a nice news story
So why start bashing,
I know him personal & he is a very nice & successful young man who has done allot for the community
Are you as successful as him?
Did you do for the community as much as he did?
Do you understand politics a bit?
Do you know what a politician is up for every minute of political life?
Do you think that a politician & other friend politicians are always friends?
Just points to ponder.

Why is this news? Here in Monsey he has now become persona non-grata and although he might be staging a comeback, its regarded by most people as a joke. He has lost a lot of respect around here. Usually where there’s smoke, there’s fire. He resigned BEFORE he was officially accused of “wrong-doing” precisely so that he couldn’t be accused. Clearly, there was some issue that he preferred not to address…

Why did he create a chillul hashem? He was accused of wrong doing and it was never confirmed. You are making a chillil hashem by accusing him falsely without even a trial!
major jewish leaders were at the event and it reflects the wonderful work ryan karben has done for the torah community. every Torah institution in need could always count on Ryan for strong advocacy. From his earliest days, he was a champion of our community and performed an enormous kiddush hashem through his public service.
