“We do have a problem that people come and dump their household waste, fill up the basket, and anybody who starts adding stuff on top, it gets knocked off,” the mayor said.

Under the new law, first-time offenders will face fines of up to $300. It had been $25. Repeat offenders could be slapped with fines of up to $400.

Additionally, enforcement agents will ticket homes if traceable trash is found in bags in the cans. [nypost]

What a pity to see such postings from Jewish people.

If you read vin enough, you will realize many of the posters here are definitely not Jewish. In any case, the public trash bins are here for a purpose. There might be any number of reasons why something with a name on it would be in a trash bin. If for example, a person would grab hismail on his way to wherever, go through it and finish, is he obligated to hold his trash envelopes in his car until he gets home? This is just another way for the city to rip people off for so called “crimes”. Or maybe we can have someone invent a good ‘auto garbage can’ to be able to keep things till they get home. The only reason to take names off is to prevent oneself from getting fined unneccesarily for doing nothing wrong! Give me a break!

    Anon 12:44 –
In my earlier post I wasn’t suggesting ways to “commit a crime more effectively”. The trash cans are out there for a reason – for incidental trash that we don’t want to end up as litter on our streets. When you’re out, you don’t have to carry home your garbage. You simply deposit it into the nearest trash can. The same holds true even if it happens to have your name on it. If you were reading a magazine from home while on the subway, what’s wrong with tossing it out when you’re done rather that carrying it home with you? People currently rip off the address labels so that those guys who dig throught he garbage and retrieve all sorts of “treasures” won’t have any personal information. I was only suggesting removing any personal information if you have legitimate incidental trash that happens to have your name on it. That would protect you from identity theft, as well as from a ticket in the case of an over-zealous officer looking for anything with a name on it in the trash can.

Why not just withold from throwing out your trash in public trash bins? Why bother with a)tearing off labels b)telling others how to most effectively avoid getting caught for doing a crime c) spreading badness to a community that should be head & shoulders above all others.

What a pity to see such postings from Jewish people.

I’ve seen people rip off the address label before throwing out the magazines they were reading on the subways. I guess people should be aware, and remove any traceable information before tossing their garbage into a street litter can. Like so many other cases, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. It would be much harder to fight the ticket after the fact. Be forwarned and for-armed. You’ll save yourself much trouble later on.
