New York, NY – The Orthodox Union has called on American, Continental, Delta, JetBlue, Northwest, Southwest, United and US Airways to offer kosher meals for sale onboard.

The group, whose OU symbol appears on many familiar packaged foods in supermarkets, made the request on behalf of travelers who find that kosher food is no longer a purchase option on domestic flights.
“It puzzles me why the airlines, which for so many years routinely provided kosher meals as an option—along with vegetarian and other special needs—eliminated kosher when they established the policy of on board food purchase,” Rabbi Eliyahu Safran, senior Rabbinic coordinator of OU Kosher Division, is quoted as saying on the OU’s Web site.
“But now is their opportunity to make up for this oversight.”
I second that! With ordinary meals, you can’t be sure what the ingredients are or how they were prepared. Kosher is safer. [chicagotribuneblog]
Jews should always take enough food with them… Just in case. A family once had a delay on a 6 hr flight that got them stuck in a goyisha city for over Shabbos. All they had were some pretzels. Rather be safe than sorry.
and keep in mind when you eat:
1)Eat the same time the other passengers eat
2)clean up after youself…
It pays to take food with you on even the shortest flight today.
With delays everywhere who wants to fast for hours.
I usually take a couple of sandwiches and a danish or 2.
Just don’t onion or garlic sandwiches . Leave the smelly food at home and try not to make a chillul hashem on board.
Let the OU be Kosher first, before they take on the airlines. Is this multi-million dollar corporation looking for a way to get some more money? What a Chutzpah!
Have you ever went by a construction site on the roadway? The only thing you see the workers (non-Jews) is eat. That’s the only thing they do on the job site.
Now you know why all roadways are always under construction and they never finish the job, because the oly thing they do is eat.
Have you seen non-Jews eat? Go on any street , especially when traveling , and you see restaurants filled to the rafters with fressers. Jews eat like anybody else. No more , no less.
OK is a company that knocks everyone else and claims they are the best. Any copmany that has to knock another one to compete is a DHUDYI DY kind of company.
Can jews ever go anywhere without eating for 3 hours?
It seems that jews have to constanly eat. No wonder why we are gaining weight everyday!

Kosher has nothing to do with safer. But, for those who only eat kosher, the only other option to eating during one’s flight is to bring your own food (unless, with all the new regulations they stop letting us do that too.) It’s getting crazier out there all the time.
