This is Mark’s sister Lynn. It is comforting to read all the wonderful tributes to my beloved brother. I hope that in addition to praising him, the community members make sure to help comfort and be present for Mark’s children, Michael, Benjy, Josh and Sam.
I don’t know how many of you know this, but our mother died when Mark was 9 and it grieves me so deeply that Mark’s children are left in such a similar situation as we were.
From what i hear Mark Davidman ZT”L known as Whitey was a great man. I wish i could’ve met him because who wouldn’t want to meet such an umbelievable Tzadik. He was a very dedicated man and doing chesed is what he did, he loved to do it. He really trully was a great great man. May his neshoma have an Aliyah, and may the Davidman family have a Nechama.

Yes, he did co-own the Metro North Ambulance at some point, years ago.
And his sister, Lynn, lives in Providene, not Boston, and yes, he was the son of the original owner of the Homowack. He was a great guy.

Just to set the record straight…
The motorcyclist hit the car, not the other way around. I was at the scene and saw the damage. The car was hit in the front passenger side from the wheel forward. The motorcycle hit with enough force to spin the car and slam it into a pole. Additionally, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet but it seems that when he hit the car, he flew off the motorcycle and hit the ground on the other side of the car.
I don’t think we can draw any general conclusions about women drivers or motorcyclists – it was simply a very tragic accident.

A Woodmere man who devoted much of his time to volunteer work was killed after he was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle on Peninsula Boulevard, Nassau police said.
Mark Davidman, 48, was southbound in the left lane on his 2007 Harley-Davidson when he was hit Monday evening by a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Annette Bunzel of Woodmere, police said. She was northbound and turning left onto Saddle Ridge Road. She could not be reached for comment.
Both Davidman and Bunzel were taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside. Davidman was pronounced dead two hours after the accident, which took place shortly before 8 p.m. Bunzel’s injuries were minor, police said. No charges have been filed and no summonses were issued. The investigation is continuing.
According to family and friends, Davidman was a generous and charitable person. He was a volunteer for the Chevra Hatzalah Ambulance Corps, the agency that took him to the hospital Monday night. Davidman’s bother, Pinchas of upstate Monsey, said that during his 30 years of volunteering he saved hundreds of lives.
Davidman also was closely involved with The Young Israel of Woodmere, a large orthodox Jewish congregation. He was a member of the board of directors as corresponding secretary and a member of the congregation for about 25 years, Rabbi Hershel Billet said. “He would take his shirt off his back for anybody,” Billet said. “He was loved by his family and by people in general. He was a great friend.”
For about a year Davidman also worked as director of operations at Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services, which offers rehabilitation and housing for abandoned, neglected, abused and disabled Jewish children in Brooklyn.
Davidman is survived by his wife, Debbie; and four sons, Samuel, 10, Joshua, 14, Benjamin, 18, and Michael, 22. The family was at the funeral yesterday at the Young Israel of Woodmere.
anon 9:58 you have lots of company who love to bash women drivers. this forum is too small to list all the crazy moves I see every day by male drivers, ie. passing a schoolbus with flashing lights by going onto the sidewalk, backing out of a street to avoid traffic, etc, etc. I never saw a woman doing these things.

I am Anon 9:58. I am trying to avoid any subject. I ride a bike because I like it. I realize there are risks and I try to be careful. I generally avoid traffic areas and ride defensively. I have been hurt riding, but also hurt in car accidents. May Hashem protect all of us.

I just returned from the funeral, well over 1000 people, a fitting tribute.
The reason for the 2-1 ratio of accidents of men to women is simply because there are twice the amount of men drivers then women drivers out there.

I have no anger towards women that I need to vent.
But I can’t escape from the fact that in my experience it is always women who are pulling out in front of oncoming traffic.
I have also seen bad men drivers, who are usually guilty of being aggressive and reckless. Many frum Jews drive in this manner unfortunately…perhaps as a result of growing up in a city, I am not sure.
I know for a fact that Chassidim have a higher accident rate than others. Rental car businesses located in areas where there are many frum Jews and Chassidim reserve the most junky cars for those clients becuase they have a reputation of driving carelessly.
I have often been outraged by aggressive frum drivers passing me unsafely, which is a great threat to me on a bike.
What is the rush? Why be so aggressive? Don’t you know you could really hurt someone.

SHAME ON YOU!!! blaming it on women drivers look upp the statistics more then 2-1 men are involved in accidents then qomen and they were at fault. Don’t use a tragic accident to vent your misguided anger at women.
It’s time to re-evaluate how we drive and take care to realize that motorcycles as well as (and especially) pedestrian have rights to walk and ride in safety. How many times have I see cars cutting around pedestrians in crosswalks mere inches away from them. As we approach Rosh Hashana, Let’s make it a point to slow down for pedestrians…They are someone’s loved one

Well, I am assuming that since she was making a left hand turn into the path of an oncoming vehicle, the oncoming vehicle, in this case the motorcycle, had the right of way. That is the usual situation and incidentally the #1 cause of motorcycle fatalities involving a collision with a car. Whatever happened, it is very sad.
He was a son of the original owner of the Homowak Hotel. He has a brother Pinny in Monsey and another sister in Boston.

On a side note, if anyone is determined to drive a motorcycle, even after this accident, they should PLEASE wear a helmet.
As a motorcycle rider myself, I can’t even recall how many times I’ve seen women, yes women, make stupid left hand turns in front of bikes, causing accidents.. They turn in front of cars also..It’s happened to me twice….landing me in the hospital. And I know of many other incidents. This is the major cause of bike fatalities…illegal left hand turns and from what I’ve seen, ITS ALWAYS A WOMAN DRIVER!!!

Woodmere biker killed in accident

A motorcyclist was struck and killed in an accident Monday night on Peninsula Boulevard in Woodmere.
The biker, Mark Davidman, 48, of 655 Ibsen St., Woodmere, was traveling southbound in the left lane when his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle was struck by a 2007 Toyota Camry making a left turn from Peninsula onto Saddle Ridge Road at 7:52 p.m., Nassau County Police said.
He was transported to South Nassau Community Hospital, where, police said, he was pronounced dead at 9:51 p.m.
The driver of the car, whom police identified as Annette Bunzel, 64, of Saddle Ridge Road, was treated at South Nassau and released. Police said the investigation is continuing, though Bunzel has not been charged and no summonses were issued at the scene.

for those of you who didnt have the zchus to meet Mark, he was the epitome of chessed…. his demise is a great, great loss – a loss to Hatzoloh, to the community, to all of Klal Yisroel. Mark was a seasoned Hatzoloh member, a first rate dispatcher who for years on end was awake almost every single Shabbos morning at 3:30am – when most of us are fast asleep – to cover the 4-9am shift. Few volunteered to do that shift, but Mark NEVER said NO.
Mark and I go back MANY years, i am still in shock and simply writing from the heart, a broken heart.
