Orange County,NY – It seems like almost every fall, when the annual firefighters’ parade is held, it falls on one of the Jewish New Year holidays. Guess what? Tomorrow – Saturday – is Yom Kippur, the holiest and most solemn day on the Jewish calendar.

Shame on the firefighters’ association. Surely, they know this. The holiday is marked on virtually every calendar. And, certainly there are Jewish firefighters in a number of Orange County fire departments.
They wouldn’t schedule the parade on Easter Sunday or Christmas Day, would they?
Wake up guys. This is 2007. Plan ahead and hold the parade on the weekend before or after if you see a holiday on the calendar. [midhudsonnws]
