Stamford Hill, London – Hackney Council's environmental-health department issued a stern warning about the religious slaughter of animals or birds in the borough, thought to be partly connected with the atonement ritual of kaparot.

In a statement, they said that they have received "complaints alleging poultry is being slaughtered at places of worship. Some people have also seen birds being carried in cages in vans and, in the past, one or two being swung around. There was also a further warning saying that people were not allowed to slaughter animals at home. Those that did, and were convicted, face a fine of up to £5,000, or two years' imprisonment, or both.
But members of the community denied that there had been any slaughter of animals anywhere other than a properly licensed and fully supervised kosher abattoir.
A spokeswoman for the council admitted that there had been no complaints, though there had been "two or three complaints last year". The statement, said the spokeswoman, had been sent out as a "refresher" to remind people of the law and of the penalties. [thej]

FYI, the fact that…
“The Judge issued an injunction to the effect that the “Illegal” structure must be demolished within “TEN DAYS”
…would possibly cause serious problems with allowing one to recite the blessing on the Mitzvah of Succah (see Siman637:3, Biyur Halacha).
People erecting these Succahs on public property are often not aware of the halachic ramifications. To a large extent, their permissibility depends on the factors mentioned in the aforementioned Biyur Halacha.
Actually,on Yom Kippur I thought of the Chesed H-shem has being doing for us these past years regarding Kapporos. For so many years, we’ve been doing this mitzvah easily. Now with PETA and their henchmen H-shem has helped us do this mitzvah with a certain amount of mesiras nefesh and and the schar we get for it is that much more.
Next in order (for those who love to persecute those who execute their religious obligations) is the illegal erection of structures on sidewalks and in front yards. A classical story is told about one judge who received a complaint about an “Illegal” structure, (A Succah) by one of our “friends”. The Judge issued an injunction to the effect that the “Illegal” structure must be demolished within “TEN DAYS”.
