Westchester, NY – At the race for sheriff Democratic candidate Tim O'Neill claims Sheriff James Kralik uses a community work program for political gain.

Kralik, a Republican, countered that O'Neill was playing politics and showing his ignorance about how community service for people convicted of nonviolent crime works
In a news release and interviews, O'Neill cites that "After over 40 years at the Sheriff's Department, James Kralik is using the department to reward his political friends and garner votes."
O'Neill said the most recent example of preferential treatment involved Brooklyn resident Joshua Frankel, who had been sentenced to 10 days of community service.
O'Neill said Frankel was assigned to work at a synagogue under the control of a "Rabbi Horowitz."
O'Neill said the rabbi also was allowed to pick up Frankel, breaking protocol since jail officers take people to their assignments or watch them work, he was referring to Rabbi Abraham Horowitz, a jail chaplain.
Kralik said. "There is no question, based on his comments, that he doesn't know how this program works."
O'Neill said he wanted the Frankel case investigated by the state Attorney General's Office so correction officers could be interviewed on whether the rules were followed. [journalnews]
I heard rumors that O’Neill will use smear tactics based on Kralik’s equal treatment of everyone. O’Neill obviously feels that we Orthodox Jews should be treated with less deference than everyone else.
I have worked with three different Sheriffs over the past 35 years that I have live in Rockland County and can’t think of a better person than Kralik as sheriff or of a fairer person, both for the Orthodox community and for the county as a whole.
