Monroe, NY – An arrest of a Frontier Communications salesman during an aggressive door-to-door campaign in KJ has made the village and town of Monroe seeking to make it more difficult to sell, campaign or proselytize in their neighborhoods.

Some of the revisions being considered include raising the peddling and soliciting license fees, limiting hours for door-to-door solicitations and requiring police background checks on all those who apply for the licenses.
The changes come in the wake of complaints that pushy salespeople from Frontier were going into neighborhoods where they did not have permission. State police picked up one salesman in the Village of Kiryas Joel, where he was not permitted to go, and found he was a wanted criminal with a record that included charges of identity theft.
The Village of Monroe requires solicitors to submit to a driver's license check and restricts door-to-door operations to 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The town does not have mandatory checks and suggests a 9 p.m. curfew for door-to-door solicitors and peddlers. [Record]
