This evening at 5:45 p.m. Mayor Bloomberg and the president of Brooklyn, Marty Markowitz, are expected to join hospital leaders at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The $118 million construction project, started in 2004, will add eight floors, or 92,600 square feet, to the Brooklyn hospital. According to hospital officials, the new space includes nine operating rooms. The pavilion will augment the existing emergency department, neonatal intensive care unit, and other services.

Recycled and low carbon imprint materials were used during construction, and the building is designed to be energy efficient.

The whole reason they built the new building is bec. they saw that they are outgrowing the hospital and built a large new building to add beds and space.

Yes they were outgrowing but Mr. Dummy it’s about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$MONEY.
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I agree that most people tie up the E.R.

I work in the E.R at MMC and 80% of the people wee see on a daily basis are wasting our time with their NON Emergancies.

Of course you don’t work for maimonides, especially if you are frum. Since they hire almost no frum people, don’t try to hire frum people, and in fact try very hard not to hire frum people. With the exception of doctors (who actually don’t work for the hospital, they see their private patients in the hospital) even licensed, experienced professionals with advanced degrees are put off by Maimonides.

Everyone knocks maimo, but when you sit back and analyze things, no other hospital can match what maimo does. this is NY where every person uses the ER as a clinic and thats ties up valuable resources. this is why you wait hours to be seen. the ER is exactly that – an EMERGENCY ROOM!! 102 fever on a child is NOT an emergency nor is a bruise to the ankle of a 41 year old. GO TO A DOCTOR!!! it CAN wait till later or tomorrow morning, but we’re all so spoiled – we live in a world of instantaneousness….

Now, backl to the topic. in an effort to better service the communities at large, which includes us frumme mentchen as well as the “others”, the hospital took the innitiative to expand. this is the largest expansion of a new york hospital for the purpose of directly servicing the community in recent history. it was NOT as a result of pressure, it was the result of the hospital wanting to accomodating.

As an added note, i do NOT work in the hospital, nor do i represent them in any manner, just simple common sense and some REAL knowledge of what’s going on….

MMC might have built a new building but they won’t improve on their service to the community.
you can die waiting to get into the emergancy room unless Hatzola brings you in or you know Dug’s beeper number.
the frum community should vote with their feet and start going to Lutheran and Methodist untill MMC improves on their lack luster performance

Hopefully this will allow them to provide the services they offer without the extra overcrowding. May we never need most of what they offer.

” Mark Levin is The Great One said…

Are they still gonna pack 6 patients in a small room??? Its disgusting.”

What do you have against Maimonides? The hospital does a great service to the community and as such is overcrowded. Would you like to be the one to show up needing care and be told “sorry, we’re full. there’s a bus to Lutheran right on the corner”

The whole reason they built the new building is bec. they saw that they are outgrowing the hospital and built a large new building to add beds and space.
