Queens, NY – Jay Dee Bakery Shut by City Calls Inspection ‘Unfair’

    13

Queens, NY – A popular Queens bakery has remained shuttered for the past three weeks after it was slapped with nearly three times the number of violations needed to force a shutdown by city health inspectors.
Jay Dee Bakery, a well-known destination for kosher treats on Queens Blvd. in Forest Hills, failed a Health Department inspection on Sept. 26, racking up 74 points of violations, including “severe vermin infestation,” an agency official said.
Twenty-eight violation points is the threshold that gets an establishment closed, according to city ordinances.
Infractions found at Jay Dee included 28 points for the presence of roaches and rats, 10 points for the presence of roaches in baking flour and seven points for perishables kept at improper temperatures.

But Jay Dee’s owner and head baker insisted he is merely the latest target of an ongoing crackdown on eateries across the city.
“The inspection was unfair,” said Willy Kazimov. “They could have told me to fix the problems, not close me down. “This is Queens Blvd. – you can’t stop the roaches,” Kazimov said.
“They are becoming absolutely crazy,” Kazimov said of the Health Department. “They think one roach is enough to close down every business in New York.”

“As long as he fixes everything the Health Department noted, I will come back and support Jay Dee.” [nydailynews]

Are you kidding, this guy is crying that roaches and mice are no big deal on Queens Boulevard. He has alot of nerve serving infested food to people, we should all be grateful that guys like that get shut down. He’s lucky if people aren’t dropping dead from food poisoning. If my neighbor served me roach infested food I’d be mad, why should I expect less from someone that I’m paying to serve me food.
Oh and good point about the microscopic bugs in water and on vegetable. Feces in food is fine, but not microscopic bugs. I guess the mashgichim think it’s batul bashishim.
A Mashgiach should have to be forced to have at least a basic understanding of food science, chemistry and microbiology. They should also understand health codes and the reasons for them. Food preperation is alot more complicated in this century with all of the artificial foods and new technologies. Maybe less mashgichim would make stupid comments like they aren’t giving the Hashgacha on the roaches.

    1. Jay Dee is OPEN on Shabbos.
    2. the ‘so called’ kosher status
    is under rabbi(??) Safra –
    Tablet-K.
    3. They closed the other
    branch on 63rd Dr.
Its about time they closed that ‘roach-hole’ down.

ps: by law, a kosher establishment may use their own themometer.

EACH KOSHER ESTABLISHMENT HAS THEIR OWN THERMOMETER. MICE AND RATS ARE SLIGHTLY LARGER THAN INSECTS ON VEGETABLES. PERHAPS SOME OF THESE ‘MASHGICHIM’ SHOULD GET NEW EYEGLASSES AND NOT USE MICROSCOPES.

A mashgiach once told me that he gives the hasgocha on the food not the roaches.
And this comes from a guy with a beard and long reckel and he is giving hashgochos on our food! What an idiot!

I am tired of the response well don’t look in the kitchen if it bothers you!

The next time I hear that stupid response from a restaurant owner i will go get 25 roaches from Queens Blvd and put it on this guys plate in his own home.

Mashgichim may not be trained to look for signs of pests the way the health inspectors do.

Was this a reliable kosher bakery? If so, aren’t the mashgichim sicked by the sight of vermin?

How is the food kosher if there are vermin in the food? This is a lot worse than unfiltered NYC water!

Unless I really learn otherwise, i will trust the authorities. It is possible that they will be less likely to overlook a small infraction because they are anti semitic but I expect no infractions shere I eat.
The real question is WHAT IS DONE WITH THE FOOD THEY STUCK THEIR TREIF THERMOMETER IN?
Every Hashgacha should be asked this question.

Same thing happened several months ago in Flatbush. Big crackdown and cleanup of the local establishments which did not take care of the basic health codes. Rodents and roaches are inexcusable.

I wonder if the closing of Landau’s restaurant in Williamsburg was part of this crackdown.

“This is Queens Blvd. you can’t stop the roaches”, yet there are still plenty of food places still open there, despite the “crackdown”. Clean up!
