New York, NY – The Boston-to-New York bus wars are revving up, and the newest gladiator’s arsenal includes complimentary onboard wireless Internet access and guaranteed seating.

Vamoose, the newcomer in the game of hurtling motorcoach passengers down the interstate, will run one bus from the Hub to Manhattan every morning and one bus back every afternoon starting Nov. 8. On Fridays and Sundays – the busiest days on the four-year-old bus company’s New York-Washington, D.C., route – Vamoose will run three or four buses in each direction.
But as a perk, surfing the Internet en route may pale against being assured a seat. Vamoose is selling one-way reserved seats for $22 over the phone and the Internet; tickets cost the same if bought in person, but those passengers will be on standby until 10 minutes before departure, after all the reserved seatholders have settled in.
“We know we have 56 seats. That’s the only amount we’ll book,” said Florence Bluzenstein, who runs Vamoose with her husband and their 24-year-old son. “That’s the difference between us and the rest.” [ap]
You can eat from a goy’s cooking if a Jew participated in cooking it (if you’re Ashkenazi this includes lighting the fire, perhaps weeks ago; if you’re Sefardi then a Jew must have participated in actually cooking this dish); or if it’s not oleh al shulchan melochim lelafes bo es hapas; or if it’s “cooked” by cold smoking. (Those are three cases I came up with; there may be more that I’m not thinking of at the moment.) But if he cooked it on Shabbos, even if it’s something to which bishul akum doesn’t apply, then you can’t eat it until enough time has passed after shabbos that it could have been cooked then.
milhouse, excuse my ignorance, but when are u allowed to eat from a goys cooking? u just opened up another can of worms (excuse the pun)
Anon of 10:37, you’re lying. What a goy cooks on Shabbos can’t be eaten anyway, even if it’s entirely his business, and even if he genuinely cooked it for his own use; so what would a shtar mechira help?
Nor do I believe you that a Chabad shul operates a paid parking lot on Shabbos; how do you know that they own and operate the lot?
The Sigheter’s ownership of parking lots in Manhattan was public knowledge back in the ’70s. And that they were open on Shabbos was certainly public knowledge – none of those lots close on Shabbos. That there was a shtar mechira follows logically – nobody suspected him of operating them himself on Shabbos! None of this required being his CPA.
The requirement is that the business not be associated with a Jewish name – i.e. it shouldn’t be thought of by the general public (not just those that happen to know) as a “Jewish business”. Which is why anon of 3:21 is right; publicising that this is a “Hasidic bus company” might serve to make the heter invalid, and thereby hurt a yid’s parnossah.
There are many conditions needed to comply with the Heter Mechira. For one it needs to be widely known that there is a non-Jew that’s a partner, it can’t be considered a Jewish business. the headline to this post did not help the owners from a Halachich perspective.
The Saturday Schedule is “owned” and managed by a Non-Jew company. That company is taking the profit and covering the expenses. I verified it with that company.
Please do your research before discussing someone else’s Parnassa.
Millhouse:
‘Divrei chachomim benachas nishmoim’
Chill out with the harsh rhetoric if you want to be taken seriously.
I personally do not believe that Lubavitch has any more to do with selling the business just on shabbos.I also don’t believe that you know whether the Satmar Rebbe, R’Moshe Teitelbaum had any parking lots or that he used some kind of heter for that, you’d have to be his personal CPA to know all these private details and if you were you would not be sharing them with us.So basically you have done the same thing as they guy you attack so harshly.
*Please think before you comment*
If a Goy owns 1 seventh of the business it can be done. But if you look at their website if says explicitly that you need to call another company for the Saturdays. Maybe the other company owns the Saturday route only it is convenient for that company to use a good name.

How gracious of you to reply so kindly to Milhouse, who wrote his post so rudely to you. It’s all in the attitude….. and kol Hakovod to you for your restraint.
Did anybody think that maybe they have a partner a guy but thats not enough news for the media to cover so they only write about hasidim.
think befor yoou write…..
“that ur father was sanding home his worker’s friday 4:00 is not al pi haluche
My father taught us that you have to send your workers home with enough time before Shabbat to travel home so they are not traveling when it is already Shabbat on your behalf.
When I had Gentiles working in my business 7 years ago, I asked a Sephardic Dayyan in LA where we lived at the time and was told that my father was correct, I should send my workers home with enough time before Shabbat so they would not be traveling on Shabbat for my benefit.
Perhaps some Ashkenazic Rabbeim hold differently.
To millhouse:
I have a letter from Rabbi Don Yoel Levy that he permits a kosher caterer to cook on Shabbos via the heter mechira from the Maharam Shick.
None of the other Rabbis who I asked in Israel or the USA had ever heard of this being applied to kosher caterers, restaurants, or meat packers before. It is also used in several Chabad synagogues that I have seen.
I am not aware of anyone other than Chabad who permits the heter mechira to apply to kosher food establishments and in synagogues.
I am not aware of the Satmar Rebbe’s parking lots, but I do know of Chabad shul that operates a paid parking lot adjacent to the shul on Shabbat. I had never seen this before either so I assumed that only Lubavitch permitted it.
To ann “that ur father was sanding home his worker’s friday 4:00 is not al pi haluche
What’s the big deal here??? There was a bus company that offered wi-fi aprox 4 years ago, it was a albany – nyc route. also owned by hasidic jews. They didn’t run on shabbos. They got a lot of publicity back then by the media because of that great idea, but I can’t understand what’s the news item now
Anon of 2:59pm on Friday: You are not just a liar, but a brazen liar. Who exactly do you think is going to believe you that suddenly Lubavitch, of all people, came up with the “shtar mechira”? If you’re going to make things up, at least make them somewhat plausible. What has this got to do with Lubavitch? Lubavitch invented it? Lubavitch pioneered it? Lubavitch publicised it? A nechtiger tog! You know very well that it has nothing to do with Lubavitch, that it was very common 40 and 50 and 60 years ago and davka not among Lubavitchers. You know this, but you decided to throw Lubavitch into the mix just because you felt like it, and you evidently don’t even care that nobody will believe you! Shoteh, rosho, vegas ruach!
BTW, the late Satmar Rov, the Birkas Moshe, used to have his parking lots run on Shabbos with a shtar mechira. I guess he was a Lubavitcher too.
Hey, call the fress truck; maybe the rabbonic will Assur them together with the Wifi.
Overone is a know it all. You know that the “hasidic” bus takes Hasids that are using internet someplace right? How many of you go to Boston? According to all you guys they are treif already.
Next you thing you know they’ll be selling chumatz to a guy!
“they are shomer shabbas and hassidic, and made a deal weth a non jeawish guy.”
When I was growing up, Shomer Shabbat meant that your business was closed for Shabbat.
Then Lubavitch came along and in the name of “kiruv” (because its too hard for a Baal Teshuva to close his business on Shabbat),we have to find what was then an obscure “heter” from a 19th century Rabbi that will let us “sell” the business to a goy for Shabbat and keep it open.
Now, EVERYONE does it!!! “Kosher” caterers have their Gentile employees making sushi on Shabbat for Sat. night. “Chassidim” at the Jewelry Show have their booths open on Shabbat and just stroll over from the hotel to supervise the goyim they hire to sell for them.
Rubashkin delivers on Shabbat too.
You cannot hire a goy to do for you on Shabbat what you cannot do for yourself!!!And this includes working your business. (Do you sell your stomach to a goy because you want to eat treif?)
My father’s generation never claimed to be anything but simple Jews. My father sent ALL of his employees home on Friday at 4PM with their pay for the week.
And you know what? Despite the Anti Semitic climate back then and the fact that all of his Gentile owned competitors were open Saturdays, my father became a rich man.
Parnassa comes from Hashem and Shabbat is Hashem’s day of rest. If you can’t believe in that, who are you kidding?
they only offer Wi Fi on Non Jewish routes.
1:02: This Bus is not meant for you I guess. But how did you write on the internet isn’t assur?
unlike you leidigeiers, there are people in this world who use the internet for work.
anon 1:59 – LOL – good line
when in Monsey bus getting wi-fi?
🙂
they are only offering wi-fi on the bus that runs on shabbos.
they are shomer shabbas and hassidic, and made a deal weth a non jeawish guy. Why talk before you verify things? HUH?
Maybe they’re gonna offer Kosher net (-:
Your worried about the wi-fi – they are not shomer shabbat. They have busses on shabbat.
If the internet is assur – why would a “hassidic” bus have wi-fi?
Never hoid of this bus company. which “hassidic” is this? what makes them “hassidic” anyway?
