Westchester County, NY – Some 3,000 voters, including candidate Domenic Volpe himself, were startled to get recorded campaign calls from Westchester County Legislature hopeful – at 2 a.m.

Volpe, a Democrat challenger in Tuesday’s election for the seat in the New York City suburb, said a firm hired to dispatch the calls accidentally programmed them for 2 a.m., instead of 2 p.m. He said he would apologize personally to each of the more than 150 people who complained to him.
The calls were aimed at Democrats, Independence party members and unaffiliated voters in Peekskill, Cortlandt and Yorktown. The recorded message assailed Republican incumbent George Oros over legislative pay raises.
Oros called on Volpe to apologize to all the recipients – “at a reasonable hour.”
“First of all, I hate those recorded messages,” said one recipient, Eileen Curinga of Montrose. “But secondly, I didn’t know whether this was sabotage or just stupidity. Either way, it’s not right that somebody calls at 2 o’clock in the morning.” [cbc]
