Washington, DC – Jewish Organization Filed Brief to Supreme Court Against Photo ID Requirement to Vote

Washington, DC – The American Jewish Committee filed a brief today with the United States Supreme Court in opposition to an Indiana law that requires voters to present government issued photo ID at the polls.
Twenty-four states presently require some form of identification in order to vote.

“The most valuable precept of our nation’s democracy is the right to vote freely for a candidate of one’s choice,” said Jeffrey Sinensky, AJC’s general counsel.

“Indiana’s photo ID requirements are the most restrictive voter ID provisions in the Nation,” states the brief. “Millions of otherwise eligible voters, particularly in certain segments of the electorate, fail to possess a government-issued photo ID.”
