After receiving complaints from residents in the 11214 zip code, the bait was set. Special Agent Stephen Dolloff mailed “test greeting card letters” to the postal customers who had complained. One customer reported she did not receive the decoy.
“Michael Olivio was the letter carrier for that customer’s address on the intended day of delivery,” said Dolloff, of the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General, in an affidavit filed in Brooklyn Federal Court.
Olivio admitted he had been stealing greeting cards since around Valentine’s Day and accelerated the thefts around holidays. It’s not clear how much money he pocketed. [nydailynews]
