Jose Hernandez has come under fire for anti-Semitic comments attributed to him during a 2004 meeting with City Administrator Jose Pulido.

In a deposition connected to the lawsuit filed by developer Severyn Aszkenazy, Pulido quoted Hernandez as saying of the developer: “He’s being greedy. He’s Jewish, you know.”

In a separate deposition, Hernandez, 77, said he didn’t recall making the statement. But if he did, he “had no malice towards … the Jewish population or Mr. Aszkenazy.”

Throughout my life I have never made any anti-Semitic statements, nor do I harbor any anti-Semitic sentiments,” Hernandez said. “So, now for somebody to come along to say I am the monster, which they created, it hurts.” [dailynews]

I would agree with your statement, IF the anti-semitic sentiment wasn’t the way this person campaigned during his last election. He would campaign making statements like, “we have to stop the jew from developing”, “these jews are taking over, we have to stop them”. This was said to a lot of the voters as he walked door to door.

….He’s being greedy and he’s Jewish, you know…. Those were [supposedly] the [paraphrased] words of Councilman Hernandez. A person shouldn’t be hanged/hung over a sentence. (even though it{supposedly} happened, that a person was hanged over misplaced punctuation. Told by our teacher, who emphasized the [critical] importance of {proper} punctuation). He’s an old man and we have to look at his total record.
