Tallahassee, FL – Mezuzahs Placed on Doors Of House Majority and Minority Leaders

    17

Tallahassee, FL – The House and Senate returned for their regular sessions, but with one change: the office doors of House Majority Leader Adam Hasner and House Minority Leader Dan Gelber, both Jewish, were fitted with mezuzos.

House Majority Leader Adam Hasner invited Chabad of Tallahassee's director Rabbi Shneur Oirechman to place a mezuzah on the door of his Tallahassee office—following in the footsteps of Gov. Charlie Crist who had the rabbi affix one on his door last year.  (Although Crist is not Jewish, his high-profile leadership position warrants a mezuzah.)

Two days later, Rabbi Oirechman was invited by minority leader Representative Gelber to hammer a mezuzah onto the doorframe of his house office. [lubavitch.com]

    Whoa! some harsh words there.
Yes, it is being Moser Nefesh to
place yourself in the middle of a
    city with nothing remotely FRUM
so that you can be there for EVERY
Yid that needs a lending hand in
coming closer to Yiddishkeit, or needs a place to stay or whatever
    else services the Jewish People…
even if the Torah does not specifically request of you to
do so. If you want to stay in your “Daled Amos” of your world
and be robot like in your fulfillment of the 613 mitzvos just to be “Yotzeih” then please do so. There’s nothing more special than being “Hartzig”
    and reaching out with Chayus
and Ahavas Yisroel to another YID..
    Wherever they may be!
Chabad, you have done an amazing
job all over the world in spreading
Yiddishkeit and bringing Jews closer to Torah and Mitzvos.

A year ago, our family had a simcha in Tallahasse on a motzei Shabbos. The only way we could attend the simcha was if we spent shabbos in Tallahasse, and it was only thanks to the Chabbad house that we had where to stay! Also, I would like to add that because he put a mezuzah on the door of Crist, who was not Jewish, TWO Jews put mezuzas up and this got publicity in an area that can use it. The Rabbi is very nice and every year makes purim party and pesach sedar that is very well attended, him and his wife and children are moser nefesh living there.

Being moiser nefesh for something the RBS”O didn’t ask you to do doesn’t make any sense.

Our job is to fullfill the mitzvos in the torah, not to create new ones.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

to anon 8:28…did you read the
word “probably”.. that means that was MY assumption. The Governer may have requested it just because he has a close relationship with his Jewish Colleagues in the office and thought it was a great idea…who knows. Stop making this
a Kabbalah Lucky Charm story and
    bringing Madona into it. Relax,
    Shabbos is coming

“to affix a Mezuzah on his door
    (probably for good luck)”

I thought that one of the reasons why the Rabbonim banned the Kabbalah Learning Center was because they were selling mezuzot as “lucky charms” to Madonna etc.

Why is it okay for Lubavitch to give a non Jew a mezuzah to use as a “lucky charm” when it caused another pseudo Jewish sect to be banned?

I doubt it. Who gave that psak?

    The Governer of Florida Charlie
    Crist sought out Rabbi Oirechman
to affix a Mezuzah on his door
(probably for good luck) not the
    the other way around.
Should the Rabbi have said NO ?
    It’s not an Aveirah.
To anon #6 :57…you sound like an
idiot. Lubavitch is not a breakaway
sect of Judaism. They are Chasidim stemming from the Baal Shem-Tov and are “Hartziker Chassidim and Mentchen” Get a life and do something good for the Jewish people.

We are in golus (exile), we do not push our faith upon non-Jews, Lubavitch is going against Jewish tradition, people should know that they are not traditional Judaism, they are a breakaway sect.

    That is not Jewish law.

Lubavitch is making up their own.

    Religion?

Most of those to whom Chabad is bringing “Yiddishkeit” are not Jewish k’halacha. Don’t ask, don’t tell.

    My Idea:
HANG THE 7 COMMANDMENT ON THEIR DOORS (however, there is a mekor in the gemoriah sending a Mezuzah to a non jew)

Its fools like you who only want to attack the ‘Lubavitch’ side of things and put a nasty spin onto something that is extremely positive. It is a huge step for these people to even CONSIDER putting up a mezuzah on their door for reasons including but not limited to:

    -ANTI-SEMITISM
    -retalitory comments from goyim
-sickos like you who spue negativity no matter what
    -ADL interference

The fact that someone who is Jewish or not Jewish to display solidarity in such a way out in the open is a huge step in the right direction. After all it was not so long ago that Florida was passing laws that banned Jews, blacks, gays, & dogs from the beach. Banning Jews from buy property in certain areas, and from entering certain resturants and shops. Stop making this about a ‘Lubavitch’ thing….what they do is AMAZING. What have YOU done lately to bring other Jews closer to yiddishkeit? The way you speak and accuse could only serve to make someone move further from Torah.

Rabbi Oreichman is the greatest thing that as happened to Jewish people in Tallahassee / Northern Florida. He & the Rebbitzen do a tremendous ammount of work to spread positivity, education, and Torah throughout the Jewish community but most importantly to the students at Florida State University & within the Florida Senate & House. He is on very friendly and warm terms with very high officials in the Florida government including the Governor, Charlie Crist. His Chabad is the only Chabad in the panhandle of Florida. He has single handedly created extremely succesful programs for Jewish college students who may not be so close to yiddishkeit introducing them and continuing to educate them about Torah, shabbos, yom tovim, and mitzvot. He always makes sure to have huge shabbos dinners, seders, yom tov celebrations, educational programs, seminars, and lectures to bring Jewish students and the surrounding community closer to Judaism. This is a HUGH KIDDUSH HASHEM for him and his family. He works on a budget of virtually no money and depends on the support of an intensly small Jewish community. If you are looking to give tzedakah or miser look no further than this man and his constant struggle to bring Jewishness to Jews. I am one of his former students and continue to support everything he does in the community by word of mouth, attending functions when I am able to make the commute from Miami and monitary contributions. He has brought nothing but simcha and nachas to a community that offered zero religious affiliation of any kind up until a few years ago. REMEMBER this is not about ‘Chabad’…this is about a yid bringing yiddishkeit to other Jewish people and bringing a positive story to the world about Jews in general. Kol H’Kavod Rabbi Oreichman!!! May HaShem continue to bless your Chabad & all of your efforts within the community and for all of K’Lal Yisroel!

It’s nice to hear that both, the Majority and the Minority Leaders put up a Mezuzah at the door of their office, in spite of the fact that they see the [political] issues from a different angle. (180*). Maybe, we hear the footsteps of [the Universally recognized] Moshiach, after all!
