New York – Alert System Now Covers Entire Region

New York – How do you warn people of an impending disaster at 4 a.m.? Firefighters could knock on doors, but that would have taken forever. A message could have been broadcast on radio stations and television, but who’s awake to hear the warning that early in the morning?

Thanks to a powerful state communication system implemented last summer, all those problems now can be solved with a click of the computer mouse.

NY-Alert can send warning messages through multiple media almost instantaneously. With the addition of Sullivan County this month, our entire region is enrolled to send disaster warnings.

to enroll, visit the system’s Web site , then click the “sign up” option along the left side. People without Internet access can sign up for alerts by calling 888-697-6972. [AP]

And just like we don’t have a radio, tv, or internet, we don’t have E mail either.

So how much of tax payers money was spent to come up with this dumb idea?

oh, So by sending me an e mail I will instantly wake up?

If this dumb idea really worked don’t you think all the alarm clock companies would be out of business already?
