The 2,535,308 summonses between January and March represented an 8 percent uptick – 200,000 more tickets – compared with the same period last year.
And while drivers fume, city coffers bloom, with $162 million collected in parking-ticket revenue so far this year, up from $150 million raked in in the first three months of 2007.
The summons surge is largely due to the increased number of traffic enforcement agents scouring the streets for double-parked and meter-ignoring cars. The NYPD currently employs approximately 2,800 traffic agents, up from about 1,900 in 2004.
And 238 new traffic agents are set to join the ranks on June 13. [nypost]
nobody is allowed to steal only the city parking money mechine
the system is so bad that some will pay the ticket even if they are not guilty coz it would take too many hours or days to go to court and fight it etc.”………..
AND THE COTY KNOWS THIS.
Simcha Felder BEGS people to fight ALL tickets that you believe was issued without warrant.
DO not have the attitude that you won’t win.
I was once in court fighting a ticket and by the time it was my turn the judge said not guilty without me even giving a defense. The judge told me that if he sees one more ticket from the person that wrote mine he will dismiss an an entire months worth of tickets issued by the agent that wrote mine!
And the reason being–the judge believed and knew that most of them were bogus because of the time stamps. It’s impossible for any agent to write 15 tickets less than 12 minutes.
if enough people fight tickets then the judges see a trend and they WILL GET FED UP and CAN do something about it.
Fighting city hall is a apin the (**** but you never know……..

Yup!! And this will be the case until we elect a new Mayor that is in touch with his constituents, not some billionaire who has no freaken clue what it feels like to be wiped out of a weeks salary by some ruthless $#@&…
You run to your car before the street-cleaning hours kicks in, early enough only to be met with a smiling agent that laughs the crap out off you, as one begs that he’s a bit early. And you try to fight ‘city hall’….
ahhhhh but did anyone count the tickets that were given before th meter expired or before the exact time of alternate side. we all know that there are ticket agents who are too excited with their jobs and give out tickets that end up being fought and dismissed. Can we get a count on those?
