Floyd was indicted Feb. 6, 2008, under the name John Doe also known as Nathaniel James Levi. Since then, he has been identified as Theodore Riley Floyd.
In his plea, Floyd admitted that on March 28, 2002, he submitted an application for a U.S. passport to the Corporate Hills U.S. Post Office in Wichita, Kan. He submitted the application using the name and Social Security number of Nathaniel James Levi, who is a deceased veteran of the United States Navy. Floyd received the passport and used it to help him assume Levi’s identity for fraudulent purposes.
“Our office has received several inquiries from members of an Hasidic community in New Jersey who accepted Mr. Floyd while he was using the stolen identity,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren. “But those events took place after the crime to which he is pleading guilty. Other authorities will have to determine whether any crimes were committed in their jurisdictions.”
Floyd, who is being held in federal custody in Kansas, is set for sentencing July 14. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison without parole and a fine up to $250,000.
Melgren commended the Diplomatic Security Service of the U.S. Department of State, the Social Security Administration – Office of Inspector General and Assistant U.S. Attorney Brent Anderson for their work on the case.
9:44 PM,
You need to do a little reading up on the “GEZAIRAH!” which has been in force for over seventy years.
Syrians do not accept gerim period. They don’t care how much money you have (they have more) how carefully your wife covers her hair and how many hours you sit and learn. No gerim period. If a Syrian marries a ger/giyores you can be assured of the following:
1)You will never daven for the amud in a Syrian shul.
2) You will never get an aliyah
3) You will never use their social hall for your simcha
4) Your children will not be allowed into a Syrian school
5) A Syrian Rabbi will never officiate at your ceremonies
6) You will not be buried in a Syrian cemetery. Plus plus plus.
3:07 PM,
>>he remains “b’chezkas goy”. That isn’t the same as a definitive psak.
Well if it’s not a psak, it’s asinine. Question number 1, if her husband is “bechezkas goy” can she remarry wityhout a get?
If the answer to that question is not a resounding Yes, the bais Din has only made the water murkier than it was before.
1. Actually, a ger, regardless of where his geirus was performed, will *not* be accepted by the Syrian community – they maintain a takana against accepting gerim into their community (due to issues of intermariage and after-the-fact conversions once upon a time).
2. The Beis Din did *not* issue a psak in his case, rather, since they were unable to clarify the issue at this time, he remains “b’chezkas goy”. That isn’t the same as a definitive psak (at least in terms of understanding the metzius; in din, we relate to him the same).
Whatever happens, he is still the “top goy in Lakewood”.
I dont understand the American legal system:
Murderers, thieves, burglars, extortionists, mafiosi, street punks, vandals, they let go after a few short years (if they put them in prison at all, or even arrest them in the first place).
A simple case of passport fraud?
Ten years + $250,000 fine.
What gives?
And the slogan in lakewood
“Mi kamcha yisroel”
will be changed to Goy Echad ba’aretz.
“from my understanding he is a full fledge ger.”….
AND my understanding is that your understanding makes no sense. Understood?
Is his wife standing behind him or does she want a divorce?
Marranos are not considered Jewish in the Syrian or any other Orthodox Jewish community.
A person must document their maternal Jewish lineage in order to be considered Jewish.
A person who is not Jewish can go to Israel to convert to Judaism k’halacha with the Israeli Rabbinute. When he/she returns to the Syrian or any other Jewish community with his/her certificate of Giyur in hand he/she will be considered Jewish.
““Our office has received several inquiries from members of an Hasidic community in New Jersey who accepted Mr. Floyd while he was using the stolen identity,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren.”
Since when is the Lakewood BMG community Hassidic?
Why 10 years for using someones social security # and name to get a passport? What is the felony?
Anon. 2:53PM Your [intentional] derogatory line is well taken (well understood)! Otherwise you’re not making any sense at all in your argument that in a chassidishe environment he (Der Yid) “would have been exposed in a minute”! (using Litvish methods of speech. i.e. “Chapping a shmooze”) The TRUE, TRUE, TRUTH is that he IS A YID!!! Only, (amazingly, the name Floyd Reilly IS AN ALIAS (one of many!) that he used. And the reason that he didn’t trip himself up, is, because he is Jewish and knew the ins and outs of Judaism! A raayeh (further proof that my theory, even if zany, is true) the person MR. John Doe (noch a raayeh, that even the US Government didn’t believe that the name Floyd Reilly is his REAL name, is the fact that they indicted him as “John Doe”) was sitting in a Beis Hamedrash and studying Torah for [at least] Eight Hours, on a daily basis. If he didn’t have the “Talmudic” reasoning process, he’d go crazy after One Half Hour!
The Rabbi is orthodox and his shul is officially orthodox. His congregants are another story. He is a full fledged jew regardless of some phoney jewish court out of lakewood paskened.
To Anon.: 2:53,
I’m one of the last people to defend Lakewood even though I live
here, but your comment is so outrageous and full of sinas chinum. It’s also Motzai Shem Rah on a whole Frum community- It’s also Motzay Shem Rah on the chassidishe community because unless they don’t accept BT’s -only then would they not be fooled. There might be a problem with the organization that brought him here and maybe with a few individuals, but your’e insane for generalizing against everyone!
The only place this goy could actually fit in, would be in Lakewood. In any Chassidishe Heimesishe Community, he would have been exposed within minutes.
All a Heimesishe person has to do is “chap” a “smooze” with him and the charade would have been over.
In all liklihood, absolutely nothing.
He became fascinated with the Syrian Jewish community and new that he’d never be allowe entry into their communit as they refuse to recognize gerim.
Nathan Levy, Marrano would gain acceptance while Ted Floyd, Ger Tzedek wouldn’t.
I don’t think there’s really any more to this story than that.
The fact that he was initially released on bail ($100K, typical for the passport charge, indicates that the federal prosecutors office doesn’t suspect him in other crimes).
from my understanding he is a full fledge ger.
Remember that according to Torah True standards he is total 100% GOY and is not Jewish at all.
this is because his alleged “conversion” was done by a “Rabbi” of a conservative temple.
Such “conversions” are not accepted to have any validity, according to all frum Jews.
This is not just a technicality but is very important to mention to the media at this time in order to help MINIMIZE THE CHILUL HASHEM.
There are millions of criminals but the media plays it up only if it is someone Jewish and presumed “frum”.
The media must know that Orthodox Jews don’t consider him to be Jewish AT ALL, according to Halacha.
he is pleading guilty to this, but what was he guilty of doing that made him want to change his identity?
My question: how did he get caught?
(scurries over to check passport collection …)
