The IRS blames the error on faulty computer software used by some paid tax preparers.
The mistake could mean a big hit for some, as President Bush’s economic stimulus package grants as much as $300 per child for eligible taxpayers.
That’s on top of the regular stimulus payments of up to $600 for singles who earned less than $75,000 in 2007 and payments of $1,200 for couples who earned less than $150,000.
The IRS says it plans to pay the affected taxpayers next month with checks sent via regular mail.
“[The IRS is] going to make good on it,” said Frank Degen, a professional tax preparer in Setauket, LI. “No one is going to lose this money.”
I was one that was shorted both on my refund and my stimulus. On my refund they already corrected and on my stimulus they told me that it would be corrected in July
they made the mistake even on returns filed without using any software!
At least the IRS make good on their mistakes. How many millions of people screw the IRS and cheat them to the highest extent, blatantly lie and cheat the government on their taxes ?
anonymous 10:01:are you one of those? you seem to have a guilty concsience!
