New York – The Orthodox Union, the New York-based group that certifies kosher foods, will launch a survey Monday to find out.

The survey aimed at the United States, Canada and Israel, available via the Internet until March 31, gauges couples’ strengths, challenges, satisfaction level, and whether, if they could, they would take the plunge all over again. Results could lead to marriage retreats and classes.
What is it’s purpose?
Oh my god I’m waiting for this report to come out b4 I jump into hot water
Stop this nonsense, How happy are jewish couples, If they are following a true torah life I mean true then they will have Hashem join them in their home and they got alot more chances than goyish couples.
chasdei hashem the best decision i ever made
i remember discussing with my wife 2 months into marraige wher on my top 10 list she was , & she said im not #1 ,i said what do you mean i have yeshiva friends since 3rd grade 13 years later MY WIFE IS MY BEST FRIEND & SO MUCH MORE ,I WISH THE SAME FOR EVERY JEWISH HOME
better jump in now b4 its too late… you do not want to stay single for the rest of your life.
Ridiculous. Period. The OU has better things to do than to mix into married couples lives. I hope they didn’t pair up with CBS for this.
The ultra orthodox are very happy after all the divorce rate is very low
I think it is a great idea and long overdue. However, unless it is done with advanced research and statistical technique its results are likely to be worthless and not reveal anything. How we define happiness varies from person to person. The types of people likely to respond to internet surveys might not be indicative of the wider population. There are many other variables that might diminish the significance of the results. Hopefully they are using a sophisticated group of researchers to design, conduct and interpret the study.
You have to be kidding me!!!!
Well I think that jewish couples have a batter chance of being happy most jewish girls and boys don’t have a history with other people and this is a ledding reason to unhappy couples. And since when is the ou some sort of marriage counselor? Its like ford motor co. Should come out with a survey about shoes!!!! But I hope that the results will be good
This will not be random survey. Only people who are interested in making a point will respond. And those who do npt use the internet will obviously be excluded as well as the many who do no frequent the OU site. I do not see how an objective result can be obtained.
I doubt that people will really be honest in their replies to the survey and in regard to the low divorce rate, I think people might divorce more if they weren’t scared of the stigma and how it coul potentially impact the shidduchim of their children.
That are definitely some couples that are unhappy, so let them get the help on time. just drawing up statistics in non sense.
for one, we are B”H a very happy couple married almost twenty years ago, now preparing to marry of the next generation be”h.
marriage isn’t as good as bachurim think it is or as bad as yingeleit say it is
Just ask matrimonial lawyers. Perhaps there is a lower divorce rate, but no one fights to the finish like the Jews. The bitterness of the divorcing process (it’s never fun) badly offsets the bliss of a truly happy marriage. Maybe this survey will identify some areas in which we can all use improvement.
Unfortunately, in this sour economy people are struggling and it puts a definite strain on family life. It might be a biased poll.
I’m glad that they titled it HOW happy are jewish couples and not ARE Jewish couples happy. This implies that ortho Jewish couples are happy the only shaila is how happy! Lchaim!
I think that we should break the poll into categories. 1.young couples being supported. 2.young couples not being supported. 3.In-laws that support. 4.In-laws that don’t support. 5. couples with kids in the parsha 6. In town 7. out of town. 8.Chasid whanabe 9.Exchasid but still frum.10.Finally, I am so happy cause Mr. Obama is becoming our new president and this is the change that I want and need. G-D BLESS!!!!
I’m 70 and I’m single I was never married before and its great no headache come on just stay single its great!!!!!!!
It takes a lot of maturity and a healthy personality to have a true loving relationship. I think people need to allow themselves to fall in love.
That is a very immature survey. First of all how can you measure happiness? By what yardstick? Couples will be happy in certain areas of their lives and unhappy in other areas of their lives. Just as single, frum, goyish, etc. etc. people are. There might be issues that have nothing to do with being jewish or orthodox for that matter. Maybe personality clashes, intelligence differences etc. That same person taking the survey today might feel differently tomorrow or next year or the year after. Looks like the o u have nothing to do with their time, or money in effect!
To many restrictions and religious demands put a lot of pressure on married couples.
look at the survey. it’s already available. they ask good questions. it’s completely anonymous also.
Why is happiness important? you do your thing, live your life, keep as many mitzvos as you can and that’s it. If you are happy it is an added benefit, like healthy or rich but you don’t need it to live.
there are good marriages and bad ones in every religion!there are also people that will make the best of things and work hard to have a successful marriage and family and there are the misserable souls that will never be happy no matter who they marry!!!!!it all depends on whose gona be responding to these surveys!!!!!
i truely believe that if a person really wants to be happy in their marriage they will do eveything they can to make it work!and if there partner is on the same page they can withstand anything together and make a go of it!!!
Is it just me or is that woman looking really unhappy in the photo
What does “happy” means, this is the starting point
Acctualy I’m 24 and not married yet
Unimpressive survey! Spent some time on it and found it to be elementary at best. Multiple choice questions don’t do justice to survey. Flawed overall perceptions.
I think what they are trying to bring out is, whats known for a long time and allot chasidim unfortunately don’t want to admit. That a sit in date with a girl or guy for 1 – 3 times does not always work out for the good (arranged marriage). Of course we have a very low divorce rate, some people live there whole life miserable because of family pressure or because the frum divorcees are treated like second class citizens. Allot of our divorcees in our community will tell you they never wanted the shiduch to begin with, it’s there parents that PUSHED them into it. What we are told allot of times “Just have another kid, that will bring you mazel” I bet you, we have allot of young people online and theses pinots will keep popping up. There are some by the Chasidim that only see them self once before they get engaged. I always ask them. When you buy a house, you do go back and check it out a few times before you buy, correct? And here where you can get stuck for the rest of your life, YOU ONLY CHECK IT OUT ONCE? Tote in heimel….
Every person has a different definition of happiness & what being really happily married means.
A big % of happiness is attitude. It is only after ppl look for happiness in other cities that they realize its all in the state of their mind.
I think that part of their questionare should be “what do you define happily married as” You’d be surprised at the answers! Start asking your family & friends!
How do they define Orthodox? Is it chassedish? yeshivish? Litvish? Sephardi? Sephardi becoming Litvish? Modern? Kippah serugah? You get the point? But however you define it look at the divorce rates over the past 10 years, that is an indicator! Maybe we should straighten out how young people are meeting and courting? MAybe that will lead to happier and thus more successful marriages.
By the looks of the photo, not too happy.
I wasn’t sure so I checked with my wife and she assured me that I am perfectly happy.
It seem like the lady in the picture is sitting in the carriage.
Now that’s an interesting marriage!
#53 and #54 , best answers here!
My fellow jews,
I take it as the greatest compliment that the world wants to study our happiness and that they are so mystified by us.
Ashreinu ma toiv chekainu.
How fortunate every one of us are, that are part of this great kiddush hashem. You have no idea what kind of zechus you have.
May we merit moshiach soon.
a study was already done at YU and they found 90% of the couples answered “i f they were givin a choice they WOULD marry the same person!”
Well, for the record, I am very, very happy with my marriage. My husband and I only met a few times before becoming engaged – almost 10 years later, we still tell each other how happy we are to have married each other, and how amazing it was that Hashem put us together. Now I guess I should go fill out the OU’s survey and tell *them* that.
I no longer have the capacity to be shocked by the imbicile OU. To cover up for the cheating and abusing that is taking place IN OUR COMMUNITIES, they will publish survey results showing a high percentage of very happy married couples. Swoosh! There go more problems, swept neatly under the magic moetzes carpet!!
Looking a the picture VIN dispalyed, if that couple really looks like that no wonder why they are so unhappy! You have them sitting like dopes and basically one spouse looks like they are sitting in a carriage at the beach.
Marriage retreat?
Sounds like another term for divorce.
After 20 years of married, I’m not so happy, at this point she will not change the way I want and I have to live like this for the rest of my life, but we stay for the kids.
i guess the ou has nothing to do
Let’s be honest for a second.Take away all the other calculations of why the orthodox don’t get divorced-what will people say,how will affect the other childrens shidduchim, and the stigmas attached and I guarantee the divorce rate would be the same as everyone else.
#21 , your observation is the best one here.
jewish couples knows thats all from hahsham and evan they have a problam they stay happy
There are many in the frum world stuck in loveless marriages. We marry people we hardly know and people comment on how good the shidduch is based on the families that made the shidduch. I dont have an alternative to our shidduch system, but for a lot of us suffering silently in misery, staying in a disaster of a marriage because by the time one realizes they made a mistake, they have to consider the lives of their children. Torah in itself may not be effective therapy as some might think. We need answers.
