Chicago police and the FBI continue to investigate the incidents, officials said at a press conference designed to spotlight hate crime awareness.

The reward is being offered by the Jewish Federation and Anti-Defamation League, according to a release from Chicago Police.

In 2008, 72 hate crimes were reported to Chicago police, the same number as in 2007, the release said.

On Jan. 10, police took reports of vandalism containing derogatory statements at two North Side synagogues — in the 2700 block of West Morse Avenue and in the 6500 block of North California Avenue — less than a mile apart, police said at the time.

A third synagogue in suburban Lincolnwood was also vandalized Jan. 10.
