The incident took place near the West Bank settlement of Kochav Hashahar, east of Ramallah, where Abiton lives.
Abiton and his wife, were apparently shot from a car speeding by them. The wife was unharmed and both were able to get to the settlement’s entrance on their own.
MDA paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene, later calling for an aerial assist. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital via medevac and security forces began canvasing the area in search of the perpetrators.
“It seems we are talking about a terrorist attack,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
Rosenfeld said gunfire was aimed at a couple driving between two settlements near the West Bank city of Ramallah after dark, wounding the driver.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility from Palestinian groups for the shooting.
