Interstate-78, which runs from Pennsylvania to Manhattan, will soon have travel times posted on overhead, electronic message boards.
Traffic operations director Jim Hogan says the seven boards will cover a 10-mile stretch, from Route 24 to the New Jersey Turnpike.
The goal is to help drivers decide whether to use the inner express lanes or outer local lanes, which could help minimize delays.
The information used to calculate travel times will be collected from sensors that scan E-ZPass transponders.
great, not only will traffic steal your precious time, but government want to steal your money and use it to tell you traffic is stealing your precious time. go figure. part of the porkulus package?
Actually, these new signs are a wonderful development for frumme yidden. Now we will know if the traffic backup will last long enough that we can jump out of our car and daven mincha without having to pull over at a rest area. Also, if we are getting out of work late erev shabbos, we will know if we can get home in time for licht benchen or just have to abandon our cars by the side of the road and walk and then return motzi shabbos to pick up the vehicle if it hasn’tm been towed.
I cant see how it unclog traffic, or be of any benefit – except to know an ESTIMATE on how long you will be sitting there.
And this is what they spend our toll money on??? Why don’t they spend it on improving the traffic – adding lanes; or improving the road signs (usually non-existent); or improving the roads.
Waste of money if you ask me.

What a nightmare. I used to live in Warren, NJ and waited 20 years for Route 78 to open. I no longer live in NJ and thank G-d every day I no longer need or own a car.
