New York – A person who spoke to George Pataki says national Republicans have approached the former New York governor about running for the U.S. Senate in 2010.

The person confirmed Tuesday’s meeting in New York City between Pataki and Sen. John Cornyn (KOHR’-nihn), a Texas Republican who heads the party’s national senate campaign committee. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he isn’t authorized to comment.
The person says Pataki, now in private law practice, hasn’t yet accepted or rejected the idea. The race would be against Kirsten Gillibrand (JILL’-uh-brand), who was appointed to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Pataki didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Cornyn’s office referred questions to the committee, which didn’t immediately comment.

what a good idea. can’t figure why i didn’t think about it. the current senator isn’t that popular whereas pataki was ellected three times to office.

I don’t think that in the Jewish modern history anyone can remember such a ohev yisroel as former Gov Pataki. He was the gov of the 3rd biggest state in the US and a lot of heimishe people had his cell phone number. Unlike Spitzer and Bloomberg he always had an open door for the frum community. So if he runs we owe him a big hakuras hatov.

He’d make a good democrat. He is the first major Republican office holder I wanted to vote against. Pete King, former congressmen Bill Paxon and Susan Molinari (they happen to be married) and even Pothole D’amato would be better.

He might have been receptive to our needs, but overall was a very poor Governor. He may fare better as a Senator being only one of 100. As I recall from my experience in State Goverment he made more patronage appointments than any other Governor.
I voted for him – at least twice. But some of you here brought up some great reasons not to vote for him – he ruined the NYS GOP by going left. If you want to call left, vote Democrat. Voters don’t need Democrat-light when they can vote for the real McCoy.
