The graffiti was discovered on the doors of the Jewish Federation of Greater Rockford, which rents office space in the building.
“Was it bored children or older people that have an agenda, we don’t know,” Federation President Sherry Dreyfuss said.
She said the federation has contacted police and the Anti-Defamation League. She said the group also debated contacting the media about the vandalism, but ultimately decided that they should get the word out.
“Not to validate what some kooks did, but to let the community know that this is what is happening,” she said.
Rockford Deputy Police Chief Greg Lindmark said police are investigating and looking into the possibility that the graffiti could constitute a hate crime.
